Sunday, September 16, 2012

The title of Pastor Lee Jennings’ sermon for the week of September 16, 2012 is “What They Say About Jesus” based on scriptures from Psalm 19 and Mark 8:27-39. The hymns for Sunday are “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty”, “Seek Ye First,” and “Joyful, Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.”

Bell Choir rehearsals will be at 6:00 pm and Chancel Choir will be at 7:00 pm. Please contact Jeff Sandquist for more information.

With the start of school, we are collecting plastic bags for the Backpack Program. If you would like to volunteer to fill the bags, they meet at Fort Wyman School at 4:00 PM every Wednesday. It only takes about half an hour to fill the bags for the Backpack Program.

Sunday school will be held every Sunday at 11:00 am. We offer Children’s Class for ages 3-9, a traditional class with plenty of arts & crafts and story time. For ages 10-15, we will have a special confirmation class. Students will learn about the Presbyterian Church and our beliefs. At the end of the course, there will be an opportunity for children to join the church. We also offer a Parenting Class, perfect for parents of children in the Sunday School program but is open to any interested folks (non-parents welcome!). We will discuss the book Real World Parents: Christian Parenting for Families Living in the Real World. Another adult class will be The Life and Writing of C.S. Lewis, exploring the writings of this Christian author (did you know he wrote more than the Chronicles of Narnia?). The class will be a combination of listening to an audio series and discussion.

National Back To Church Sunday is on September 16 this year. We will be celebrating it with a special service and fellowship hour. Meanwhile, reach out and invite someone to come to church this Sunday!

The Mission Committee has buckets to be filled for the John Calvin Disaster Assistance Committee to be taken to the Presbytery meeting in November 2012. This is a great project for families or groups. In each bucket, you will find a list of items that go in the bucket. If you take one, please sign your name so we know who has the buckets. Remember, these buckets go to families that suffer from some sort of natural disaster to help them clean up their homes!

Preschool has begun another year, and we are happy to report our enrollment is full! With this, many students we could use some more volunteers. Volunteers may help for any length of time that is convenient for them. If you would like to help please give Candace Ludden a call at 573-364-0992 or speak with one of the Preschool Management Committee members.

The nursery is in need of donations for the children including construction paper, glue sticks, markers, paper plates, and other craft materials. Any donations can be taken to the nursery or left in the church office.

Worship begins at 9:45 am, followed by education and fellowship. Our church provides a Nursery during worship service. First Presbyterian Church is located at 919 E. Tenth Street in Rolla. Our website is www.rollapresby.org.
