The title of Pastor Lee Jennings’ sermon for the week of  November 18, 2012 is “The Joy of the Lord” based on scriptures from Nehemiah 8:1-3, 9-12 and Philippians 4:4-7.  The hymns for Sunday are “We Gather Together”, “Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart”, and “Come Ye Thankful People, Come”.

After Sunday worship service a prayer of dedication will be offered by Pastor Jennings in the Memorial Garden.

Mission Committee will be filling boxes for the eight families that the church has adopted for Thanksgiving right after church Sunday.

Presbyterian Women will be having our annual Christmas Bake Sale (which includes the “cookie walk”) and Bazaar on Saturday, December 1 from 8:00 – 2:00 in the Fellowship Hall.

The Pre-school will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday November 21 – 23, 2012.

The church office will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday, November 22 -23, 2012.

The title of Pastor Lee Jennings’ sermon for the week of November 11, 2012 is “Should this Sermon Make Me Happy?” based on scriptures from Psalm 30 and Hebrews 9:24-28. The hymns for Sunday are “God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand”, “This is My Song”, and “Lead on O King Eternal”.

Worship begins at 9:45 a.m., followed by education and fellowship. Our church provides a Nursery during worship service.  Sunday School is held every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. We offer a variety of classes for all age groups.

At its 9:45 am worship service this Sunday November 4, First Presbyterian Church of Rolla is celebrating the culmination of its Stewardship Consecration Program followed immediately by a luncheon in its Fellowship Hall.  Holy Communion will be observed.  The Guest Speaker is the Reverend Dick Menzel, the former Stated Clerk of John Calvin Presbytery.  Rev. Menzel will be preaching from the Scriptures: Isaiah 11:6 and Matthew 22:2, 36-40. The sermon title is, “And a Little Child Shall Teach Grandpa and Grandma.”  He will also speak during the luncheon to follow, a talk entitled “A Brief Introduction to an Amazing Presbyterian.”

On November 10, opening day of deer season, we will also host a breakfast from 8am until noon.  Everyone is welcome–hunters, non-hunters, family, friends, everyone!  There is no charge for the breakfast.

The title of Pastor Lee’s sermon for the week of August 26, 2012 is “A Hard Idea to Swallow” based on scriptures from Psalm 84:1-7a, 10-12, and John 6:56-69. The hymns for Sunday are “God, You Spin the Whirling Planets”, “Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts (V 1-5)”, and “This is my Father’s World.”

Are you hot? Cool off with ice cream and a few water games. August 26 at 3:00 PM, we will be serving up cones, dishes of ice cream with toppings and providing some young-at-heart sports outdoors with water. Participation in the games is optional.

Chancel Choir and Bell Choir will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Bell Choir will be at 6:00 pm and Chancel Choir will be at 7:00 pm. Please contact Jeff Sandquist for more information.

With the start of school, we are collecting plastic bags for the Backpack Program. If you would like to volunteer to fill the bags, they meet at Fort Wyman School at 4:00 PM every Wednesday. It only takes about half an hour to fill the bags for the Backpack Program.

Our new year of Sunday School will begin Sunday, September 9th at 11:00! We offer Children’s Class for ages 3-9, a traditional class with plenty of arts & crafts and story time. For ages 10-15, we will have a special confirmation class. Students will learn about the Presbyterian Church and our beliefs. At the end of the course, there will be an opportunity for children to join the church. We also offer a Parenting Class, perfect for parents of children in the Sunday School program but is open to any interested folks (non-parents welcome!). We will discuss the book Real World Parents: Christian Parenting for Families Living in the Real World. Another adult class will be The Life and Writing of C.S. Lewis, exploring the writings of this Christian author (did you know he wrote more than the Chronicles of Narnia?). The class will be a combination of listening to an audio series and discussion.

National Back To Church Sunday is on September 16 this year. We will be celebrating it with a special service and fellowship hour. Meanwhile, reach out and invite someone to come to church on September 16! Invitation cards are available, if you want to use them, on the table outside the office and on the foyer desk.

The title of Pastor Lee’s sermon for the week of August 12, 2012 is “Taking in Jesus” based on scriptures from Psalm 34:1-8 and John 6:35, 41-51. The hymns for Sunday are “Become to Us the Living Bread,” “Let All Things Now Living,” “You Satisfy the Hungry Heart” and “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.”

A memorial for Shirley Andrews will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 starting at 2:00 PM. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Fellowship Hall.

Michael Wilbanks, a member of our church who attends Missouri State University, spent some time this past summer in Africa on a missionary trip, along with other students. On August 12, 2012 at 5:30 PM, we will have a carry-in dinner at the church. Michael Wilbanks will speak and show pictures of his experiences on the mission trip. This is a great way to hear how our youth is helping to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

The church’s Membership Committee is planning a float trip for Saturday, August 18, 2012. We will be floating the Big Piney.

The title of Pastor Lee’s sermon for the week of July 29, 2012 is “Chaos and the Lie”, based on scriptures from Genesis 1:1-5, 3:1-3, and John 8:42-44. The hymns for Sunday are “A Mighty Fortress is our God”, “Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart!”, and “How Great Thou Art.”

The Mission Committee collected packages of #2 pencils for the Back to School Fair, as well as cleaning supplies for GRACE. We would like to thank our congregation for coming through to help those in need in our community.

Sunday, July 1, 2012 and Other Happenings

On Sunday, July 1, Pastor Lee’s sermon, “The God of Freedom,” is based on scriptures from Isaiah 25:1, 6-10 and Galatians 5:1, 13-23. Communion will be celebrated this Sunday.

On this Day of Pentecost, Pastor Lee’s sermon, “Gift Helper” is based on scriptures from Psalm 104: 24-34 and Acts 2: 1-21. The Bell Choir will be performing several selections. The Choir Introit is Come Holy Spirit and the Anthem is For the Beauty of the Earth. There will be a carry in celebration to say farewell to Joe Senne as he moves to California. Nursery is provided during the service.

We are very excited about our upcoming Vacation Bible School on June 3 from 6-8 pm through Thursday, from 6-8 pm —- “SonRise National Park.” There will be lively songs, creative crafts, exciting games, Bible stories, and tasty snacks. Ages are 3 years old to 5th grade. Registration is at the door.

Amy Mazzeo will be performing a senior vocal recital on Sunday, June 3 at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Everyone is invited to all of these upcoming events!
